Lib Dem Councillor Alan Broadhurst sees the start of work at Fleming Park
Work has just started on a major improvement to Fleming Park leisure centre in Eastleigh. The scheme is jointly funded by developers contributions from Lib Dem run Eastleigh Borough Council and DC Leisure. The leisure centre is one of the South's busiest.
The scheme, which will cost in excess of £1 million, will see the construction of a new glazed entrance with easy ground floor access for all users, a landscaped plaza and curved roof. Besides improving reception facilities the facelift will also see the Centre's café extended, improved toilet and washroom facilities plus a permanent office and assessment room for Healthworks.
Work is expected to be completed by Christmas this year and the Centre will remain fully operational throughout the construction period.
Eastleigh Cabinet Member for Leisure, Liberal Democrat Councillor Alan Broadhurst said "This important project will remove the infamous concrete steps at the entrance to the Leisure Centre and give it a whole new look. Our aim with centre operators DC Leisure is for the centre to remain open throughout the construction period although inevitably there will be some minor disruptions from time to time."
