Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has hit a road block in his campaign to get the M3 and M27 resurfaced to reduce motorway noise for local residents.
"Many hundreds of people have to live with road surface noise that is quite unnecessary"
Chris has repeatedly pressed the Highways Agency to resurface the old noisy surfaces as the M3 passes through Eastleigh and also the M27 through West End, but the agency has now refused to do so.
The Highways Agency has admitted that it resurfaced parts of the M3 at Winchester to cut noise, but it is not prepared to do the same in Eastleigh until the road needs resurfacing for other reasons.
"This is a very disappointing response, and will upset many hundreds of people who have to live with road surface noise that is quite unnecessary given the new surfaces that are available" said Mr Huhne pictured here over an offending stretch of motorway.
"I will go on pressing the Highways Agency to resurface the Eastleigh and West End parts of the M3 and M27 as this is a key quality of life issue for so many of my constituents" said Mr Huhne.
Chris Huhne's persistence on road repairs recently paid off when Hampshire county council announced work on Twyford Road, Eastleigh, which Mr Huhne has described as the bumpiest road this side of the Himalayas.
