Huhne calls for rethink on airport car parking proposal

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has called on Southampton Airport to rethink its proposal for 900 car parking places in Campbell Road, Eastleigh.
"This is a hare-brained scheme as all the cars and all the minibuses to take people back and forwards would have to negotiate a narrow brick bridge over the main line to Campbell Road.
"These access problems alone should be enough to stop this idea, but in addition the extra traffic would have to use Southampton Road which is already an air quality management area because it is highly polluted.
"I hope the airport is going to think again about this plan, as it makes no sense at all and would be highly disruptive for local residents in both Campbell road and Southampton Road.
"The airport needs to find an alternative solution to their car parking problem that is not at the cost of local residents", said Mr Huhne.
