YOUNGEST COUNCILLOR IN BRITAIN SITS FOR HEDGE END

Hedge End has elected Nathan Khan, aged 18, as the youngest councillor in the whole country, according to local Liberal Democrats.

Nathan is pictured here being congratulated by Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne with fellow Hedge End and Eastleigh councillor, June Hughes, one of his former teachers at Kings Copse primary school and a former mayoress of the borough.

"Until this election, the minimum age to be a councillor was 21, and Nathan has stolen a march on any other 18 year olds because he was elected unopposed to Hedge End Town council after nominations closed last week" said Chris Huhne.

"I hope Nathan applies for his place in the Guinness book of records. It is quite an honour! At this rate, he will be Prime Minister before he is thirty" said Mr Huhne.

Nathan, who stood for the Liberal Democrats, represents Shamblehurst ward on the Hedge End Town Council. He is about to start an accountancy course at Eastleigh college.

"I'm really pleased to have been elected and I look forward to doing what I can to represent all the voters of Shamblehurst, but I also hope to bring a young voice to the town council. A lot of local young people do not feel that they have any influence over the community's decisions" said Nathan.
