Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne said that the Government Inspector's decision to overrule Eastleigh borough council and back a new phone mast in Chandler's Ford was a "slap in the face for local residents and their representatives".
"The government inspector and Vodafone have ridden roughshod over local wishes, which should be respected in planning matters such as this. Vodafone should learn to take no for an answer, instead of coming back time and again from the dead like a high tech Count Dracula. They should listen to local residents and find a better site."
Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Winchester & Chandler's Ford, Martin Tod, added: "The Council Officers in Eastleigh were absolutely right to refuse the application last time. Local people won the argument locally and deserved to win the appeal."
