Olympic champion Jonathan Edwards joined Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne to back local sites as training camps for the teams that will compete in the 2012 Olympics.
Jonathan Edwards, who is on the board preparing for the Olympics, is pictured here with Chris Huhne. He said that national teams would need training camps ahead of both the Olympics and the Paralympics.
Mr Edwards said that private sponsorship of the games was on track, and the committee was offering every national Olympic committee up to £25,000 to stage the pre-games training camp in the United Kingdom.
Chris Huhne said: "This is a great opportunity for Hampshire since we have such good connections with London. I very much hope that the nine sites in the Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester areas will be chosen for pre-games training.
"Nothing would bring home the excitement of the games more than having would-be Olympic stars training locally before the events" said Chris.
The sties include the Dynamo School of Gymnastics, Hoplands Equestrian Centre, King Edward VI school, Jubilee sports centre, the Rosebowl, Sparsholt College, The Quays Eddie Read Swimming and Diving complex, the University of Southampton and the Westgate Badminton Centre.
