CHRIS HUHNE GIVES A BIG "THANK YOU" IN 25th VOLUNTEERS WEEK

June 2, 2009 11:00 AM

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne said a big thank you to all the volunteers who help charities and community activities on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Volunteers week between 1st and 7th June.

Mr Huhne said: "The annual celebration of all those who help in local voluntary work is a crucial reminder of how much we rely on unpaid labours of love to keep a sense of community spirit going."

"Eastleigh is blessed with a vast number of charities and community activities all of which rely on the unstinting efforts of so many local people giving their time, energy and commitment just for the good feeling it gives them. We owe them a vast amount," said Chris.

Chris Huhne said that Volunteers Week was rightly the annual point at which we take stock and say thank you to all those who help, and this week was particularly special as it was the 25th anniversary of the celebration.

Chris said he found it particularly heart-warming that so many young people get involved in helping out. "Too many people run down young people, when in fact there is a fantastic amount of help from many public-spirited youngsters," said Chris.

The theme of Volunteers Week this year is "rewarding, recognising and recruiting" volunteers.

The partners in Volunteers week include the Scout Association, Beatbullying, Youthnet, Envision, British Heart Foundation, Citizens Advice Bureau, St John Ambulance, Clinks, English & Wales Cricket Board, National Trust, Sustrans, British Red Cross, RSPB, Christian Aid, Victim Support, Samaritans, Scope, Project You, Sue Ryder Care, Mencap, Voluntary Arts England, Business in the Community, Blue Cross, Getting on Board and Abbeyfield.
