Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne celebrated proud of pubs week by raising a jar with the locals and their landladies Rachel and Carey Light of the Anglers in Bishopstoke (pictured).
Chris said: "We should use our pubs or we will lose them. Pubs have been closing at a terrible pace, and with each one that goes there is a loss to the local community of chat, friendship and local spirit.
"Pubs are about responsible drinking in a friendly atmosphere with people you know, and many now offer food as well. We should celebrate the local as hub of the community."
Chris has pressed for special ways of helping pubs to survive such as axing the above-inflation beer tax increase, backing tenants of the big chains to allow lower beer prices, and putting limits on supermarket discounting for cheap alcohol.
