One of Eastleigh's oldest D-day veterans received his Veterans' badge in person from Chris Huhne MP after making a good recovery from an illness.
Harry Gerrard, aged 89, was joined by four of his six children and a grandchild for the presentation at Fleming House Nursing Home in Eastleigh.
Mr Huhne is pictured presenting the badge here with Harry Gerrard and his sons Derek and Ron, daughters Carol Smith and Jean Porter, and granddaughter Samantha.
Harry said that he had been looking forward to the presentation, and was sorry that his health meant that he could no longer join other Normandy veterans for their annual get-together.
Harry was a Gunner in the Heavy Anti-Aircraft regiment and was in action on 9th June 1944, arriving at the beachhead at 5am in daylight.
Chris Huhne said: "It's a privilege for me to honour Harry Gerrard for all his brave service at a key time in our history, and I am glad to be able to visit him since he was unable to come to our civic ceremony in the summer".
