Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne is pictured here meeting members of the Eastleigh Carers Group who look after some of the most vulnerable and needy people in the community.
Mr Huhne said that carers should be valued more by society for the "immense contribution" in looking after both young and old disabled people such as those with dementia and Down's syndrome.
The Eastleigh MP said that he wanted personally to say thank you to carers for all their devotion and commitment, and that he believed that carers should be supported with proper respite care that allowed them to take a reasonable break.
"It worries me that public authorities are cutting back on respite care and the amount of support for those in need, which in turn means that we increasingly run the risk of taking carers for granted" said Mr Huhne.
Mr Huhne met the Eastleigh Carers Group at a meeting at the Wells Place centre, and agreed to take up individual concerns on behalf of members on issues like the payment of Disability Living Allowance.
