Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne is supporting a parliamentary motion to recognise the compassionate work that charities and churches carry out at Christmas and the New Year.
Mr Huhne said that we should highlight the tremendous and invaluable charitable work carried out over the Christmas period by charities and churches, particularly providing food and shelter to the homeless, and supporting vulnerable people with health problems and those on their own.
Commenting, Chris Huhne said:
"Many hundreds of people would be sleeping rough at a time when the rest of us are enjoying Christmas cheer if it were not for non-stop charitable efforts.
"The charities and churches that carry out this vital work, and the thousands of volunteers that give up their time to help, should be congratulated.
"It is easy to forget over the Christmas period that there are many less fortunate people who may not have families and food to celebrate with.
"These organisations provide a ray of hope for these people, and we should all take a moment over the festive period to appreciate the vital and difficult work that they do."
