Chris Huhne, MP for Eastleigh, has welcomed the Ministry of Defence's provision of extra minutes of free telephone talk time over the Christmas and New Year period for British troops serving overseas.
Mr Huhne, who was one of the MPs who backed a parliamentary motion calling for the extra free talk time over the festive period, said: "Our troops do an excellent job in very difficult conditions, spending long periods of time away from their friends and family.
"This must be particularly difficult over the festive period, which makes any extra contact with loved ones all the more valuable.
"I am glad the Ministry of Defence has responded by adding an extra hour of talk time for our troops serving abroad. This is particularly important in conflict zones like Afghanistan, where this will help keep troop morale up.
"This is the least that we can do to help our troops keep in touch with their loved ones."
