Lib Dem slams Hampshire Highways
Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Eastleigh Liz Jarvis has slammed Hampshire Highways’ response to Cemex’s planning application for gravel extraction at Hamble Airfield.
Cllr Jarvis, who represents Hamble and Netley on Eastleigh Borough Council and last year ran a petition against gravel extraction at the Airfield which generated over 1000 signatures, commented:
“I am shocked and dismayed at the response from Hampshire Highways. Anyone who has ever driven along Hamble Lane knows that this proposal and the resulting traffic would be catastrophic for residents, schools, NHS services and local business owners in Hamble, Netley and Bursledon. There are serious concerns about the impact on road safety, congestion and air pollution, particularly for children and young people and those with respiratory conditions.
“Even the County Council admits that 144 extra heavy lorry movements on Hamble Lane each day would seriously add to congestion in what is already and Air Quality Management Zone. The fact they even go on to admit that they want to take cash from Cemex for improvements to the road but refuse to commit to when these could be made, beggars belief. It is yet another reasons why county planners must recommend refusal of this disastrous proposal.”
