Pay WASPI women compensation now, urges Liz Jarvis
Liz Jarvis has urged the Government to pay compensation to the thousands of “WASPI” women in Eastleigh and across the UK after the Parliamentary Ombudsman’s report ruled that the Department for Work and Pensions failed to inform thousands of women across the country who were born in the 1950s about changes to the state pension age.
Liz Jarvis, who brought a successful motion to Eastleigh Borough Council in February calling on the Government to issue fair and fast compensation for the 6,310 affected women in Eastleigh, commented:
“After years of waiting it is welcome news the Ombudsman has finally recommended compensation for WASPI women.
“Women across Eastleigh and Hampshire were impacted by the decision not to inform them about the change to State Pension Age, with a huge impact on their lives, their families and their wellbeing.
“Women who were affected, including the amazing members of Solent WASPI, have shown extraordinary courage, campaigning tirelessly for justice. They deserve our admiration and respect – and above all they deserve fair and fast compensation now.
“The Liberal Democrats have been consistent in our support for WASPI in their campaign and now it’s up to the Conservative Government to put forward a plan to get all the WASPI women the compensation they are owed.”
