Hampshire County Councils shocks Hamble Residents!

Hampshire County Council shocked Hamble residents at the Cemex Gravel Appeal by withdrawing its objection to Cemex’s plans for a quarry on the Airfield with over 1000 extra heavy lorry movements every week.
Lib Dem Councillor Keith House gave evidence at the Appeal, backing up Hamble Parish Council and the local Residents’ Group that had full legal representation at the hearing.
“The case against Cemex is unanswerable”, says Cllr House. “It is not just the traffic, but the noise, dust, and proximity of the planned pit right next to Hamble’s primary and secondary schools. I spoke at the County’s Planning Committee and successfully moved refusal of the pit plan. Little did I expect that by the time we got to the Appeal, the Conservative County leadership would have caved in to the Mexican cement giant. It is an absolute disgrace and denial of democracy.
“Hopefully the Planning Inspector will agree with the local community that the County has got this wrong and throw out the Appeal”.
The hearing continues in late June, with a decision expected in the autumn.
